The crisp, spontaneous “whites” in a watercolor painting are easily achieved by protecting the areas with Art Maskoid®. Washes of color can be applied freely, allowing blending and intermixing on the watercolor paper.
In wash drawing, Art Maskoid® can be applied to fine details using a quill pen or any fine pen point. It applies almost like an ink and dries in minutes to form the protective membrane. Inks or watercolor washes applied over the protected parts will not penetrate. Upon removal of the Art Maskoid, the paper surface is left intact.
Interesting effects are obtained when executing a pen and ink drawing. Art Maskoid® is applied by pen or brush to a bristol board surface and dries quickly, leaving the covered areas as "whites", after removal of the Art Maskoid®. The so-called "scratch board" technique results with accidental effects that lend an extra enrichment in the final pen drawing. Every artist should attempt this technique as a starter in discovering how Art Maskoid® can be used as a creative masking-out medium.
Art Maskoid® is an excellent masking-out medium for the airbrush artist. The masking-out operation is simplified and convenient because the Art Maskoid® forms a quick frisket upon drying thus allowing for greater freedom when air-brushing with watercolors, inks or dyes.
When Art Maskoid® is used in the ruling pen and compass, straight lines and circles can be drawn in symmetry to produce designs, motifs and symbols without using any white. White and black patterns are obtained by covering the area, then applying inks and finally removing the Art Maskoid®. Designs can be produced on glass, metal, plastics, ceramics and many surfaces when using Art Maskoid® as the masking medium.
